Longview

Ted "Papa" Beckwith, aged 79, passed away on November 29th, 2023, surrounded by his loving family.  Born in Michigan, Ted lived a vibrant life shaped by his warm spirit, quick laugh and dedication to his friends and family.

As the son of a U.S. Air Force officer, Ted's early years were marked by travel across the United States and a stint in Japan. He himself served in the US Army during the Vietnam conflict, securing a post in Germany, where he contributed his talents as a draftsman.  After his discharge, Ted enrolled at Texas Tech University in Lubbock Texas before transferring to Oregon State.  There he earned a mechanical engineering degree in 1970. He was a lifelong member of Beaver Nation, always wearing his OSU vest and Beavers hat with pride.

Throughout his career, Ted worked for numerous engineering firms in the Portland area including CBG, Jacobs Engineering, and PAE.  He was particularly proud of his contributions to the OHSU Tram Expansion, various PPS schools, the Warm Springs Museum, and construction projects involving JH Kelly, LLC.

It was during his time stationed in Germany that Ted met the love of his life, Kathy Kelly.  In 1970, they were married and started a remarkable journey that included the joy of raising two sons, Kelly (Carrie) and Joshua (deceased), and a daughter, Emily (Sean). Ted cherished his role as a grandfather to Kailey, Blake, Addi, and Kellen, finding immense joy and pride in their presence.

Ted is survived by his beloved wife Kathy, son Kelly (Carrie), daughter Emily (Sean), and his cherished grandchildren Blake, Kailey, Addi, and Kellen.  He is also survived by his family in California including his brother Jim (Mary Lynn) and son Chris (Lorna). Ted was preceded in death by his son Joshua, father Bick, and mother Jean.

To honor his memory, please toast Ted with a great Oregon craft beer and share a good story.  The family kindly requests that donations be made to support Dementia prevention—a cause close to Ted's heart.

A small family service will be held this spring.
