Sondy’s life was a reminder that love, perseverance, and delight in simple things can leave a beautiful and enduring legacy.

Sondra Sue Thompson, lovingly known as Sondy, passed away on April 20, 2026, in Vancouver, Washington. She was born on July 22, 1942, in Plainville, Kansas, and carried through her life a spirit of love, humor, and quiet strength that left a lasting impression on those who knew her.

Sondy was born with cerebral palsy. She was never able to walk, and in her early years her devoted mother carried her or pushed her in her wheelchair wherever she needed to go. In the early 1970s, she moved with her mother from Plainville, Kansas, to Vancouver, Washington. Through every season of her life, Sondy was known as a very loving person who never complained about her situation. She loved to tease everyone around her and was always eager to know what they were going to have for dinner, bringing warmth and laughter into everyday moments.

She found happiness in life’s simple pleasures. Her favorite treats were black licorice and orange slices, and she loved Dr. Pepper. She enjoyed watching and singing along with The Lawrence Welk Show and loved listening to music. Those small joys reflected the contentment and appreciation she carried with her throughout her life.

Sondy also took great pride in being helpful to others. Even while using a wheelchair and with limited control of her hands, she was committed to helping sort things at the ARC of Clark County. She loved to work, and that commitment spoke to her determination and generous heart.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Joe and Virginia “Gin” Thompson, and by her sisters, Rita Jo Link and Monna Lou Johnson.

Sondy’s memory will be cherished by her family, including her nieces and nephews: Pam and Rich Anfinson, Brad and Rose Link, Shelli Wittaker, Phil and Mel Link, Dawn Bos, Johni and Darrell Keller, Kelli and Butch Rarer, Dave and Denise Whisman, Brent and Vicky Whisman, Stacey Dickinson, Shaun Johnson, and Vaughn and Elizabeth Johnson. She held an important place in the lives of those who loved her, and they will remember her affection, her playful teasing, and the way she found joy in the ordinary.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on October 3, 2026, at Plainville Cemetery, 903 S. Cemetery Road, Plainville, Kansas 67663.
