Sangvar Tan

Sangvar (Doun) Tan, of Longview, Washington passed away January 24, 2022 in her 59th year. Born in 1962 in Takeo, Cambodia, Sangvar immigrated to the United States in 1982 and became an American citizen in 1995. In the 1970s, her father was executed by the Khmer Rouge and her two youngest brothers died unfortunate deaths. The youngest was 6 or 7 when he starved to death. The second youngest brother was tortured to death for stealing food for the brother starving.

Sangvar battled and survived many health problems including: diabetes, lupus, 12-hour-a-day dialysis, and a kidney transplant. Her final battle was with COVID Pneumonia.

Sangvar left Cambodia in 1982 as a refugee and settled in Jacksonville, Florida. She later met and married Chun Tan, and they made a loving home together in Longview. She is survived by her mother Yonn Long, two sisters Rothana Long and Veasna Doun, and a brother Vantha Doun. Sangvar had four daughters, Julie Tan of Detroit, MI, Janny Smith of Aurora, CO, Melissa Baldivino of Federal Way, and Christina Wilson of Denver, CO. She had four grandchildren, Kaelani, Isabella, Jonathan, and Olivia.

Funeral services will be held at the Steele Chapel at Longview Memorial Park on Saturday at 12:30 pm.
