Richard Ronald Kyro

Richard Ronald Kyro, known as “Dick”, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on September 13, 2025, at the age of 91.

He was born on July 21, 1934, in Portland, Oregon to Ronald and Aina Jokela Kyro. He graduated from Kelso High School in 1952 and joined the Marine Corps serving 3 years during the Korean War. He worked for Weyerhaeuser and then Reynolds Metals until his retirement. He was a member of the Longview -Kelso Elks for 60 years.

A loving, kind and devoted husband, he cherished his wife, Bonnie Jean Kyro, with whom he shared 61 years of marriage. Richard is survived by his sons Michael Kyro and Douglas (Collette) Kyro; sisters Valerie (Larry) Nikolaus, Candy (Joe) Serroels, and Judy Kyro-Smith; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; cousin Anny; three daughters Richelle, Dawnn, and Angela; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Richard was a craftsman, building the family home in town and a beautiful cabin on the Kalama River. Awesome job, honey! He had many interests and hobbies. He enjoyed family time, camping, boating and fun vacations. He was a Little League coach and Cub Scout and Boy Scout leader.

After retirement, Richard and Bonnie made many trips to other countries, enjoyed traveling in their motorhome across the U.S., Canada, Mexico, and Baja. They rode their Harley to Sturgis, Route 66, and Canada. Honey, our life was full of fun and craziness. He also loved snowmobiling, skydiving, scuba diving, waterskiing, traveling, country music (of course), telling stories, reading, and—most of all—his family.

Those who knew him would say he never gave up doing anything including keeping up with the younger guys. "I’m not old" he would say. "I can do it"….and he did!

He was preceded in death by his father Ronald Kyro, mother Aina Hanstad, stepfather Otis Hanstad, stepmother Millie Kyro, brother Gary Kyro-Hanstad, sister Lori Kaiser, numerous relatives and close friends.

As we remember Richard Kyro, we celebrate a life filled with love, laughter, and connection to family and friends. He will be deeply missed.
