Longview

     Ray was born in Seattle, Washington to Arthur and Majorie McDermott. He lived and attended schools in the Ballard area. Upon graduation from Ballard High School he attended the University of Washington.  It was during this time he met the love of his life, Phyllis Ann Graham.  They were married on June 25, 1950.  They had 48 years together.
     Ray and Sanny had a son, Patrick (Barb) who lives in Bellevue and a daughter Kerry Edwards (Garth) who lives in Portland.  He was always an active supporter of Pat and Kerry's activites. He has 5 grandchildren Abbey McGee (Mike), Joe McDermott (Heather), Ellie White (Colin), Jeff Bell (Amber Bradley) and Adam Bell (Jazmyne Bisquera). He has 9 great grandchildren.     
     Ray worked at Longview Fibre Company for 40 years beginning as an accountant and holding the position of Vice President of Finance upon retirement.
     Ray was active as a Shriner, President of United Way and held a position on the Longview School Board.
     After retirement, Ray and Sanny continued to have fun together - running races, working on their Hood Canal home, skiing at Mt. Bachelor and attending Blazer Games and Portland "Pops" concerts.
     Ray passed away in Longview on October 6.   Arrangements are by Steele Funeral Home.   Service will be at the Kelso United Methodist Presbyterian Church on Sunday, November 19 at 3:00 p.m.
