Randall Keith Greig

May 10, 1949 — May 25, 2023

Randy Greig, 74, of Longview passed away May 25, 2023, at his daughters home surrounded by family.

Randy was born in Longview May 10, 1949, and was the oldest of 4 children to Stanly E. and Lois M. Greig. He graduated from R.A. Long in 1967 where he was involved in Cross country, theater and Choir and Blue Notes where he was known for his beautiful singing voice. He met his wife of 55 years Teresa "Diane" Rouse, in 1967 when he was performing in a school play and she did his make-up. They were married May 4, 1968 at Camp Pendleton prior to him leaving for Vietnam.

He joined the Marines in February 1968 and was stationed in Vietnam where he was a squad leader. In late February 1969 his squad was ambushed and while trying to help his wounded men he was severely wounded himself. He spent months in the hospital before being discharged to The Marine Reserves with the rank of Lance Corporal. He spent the rest of his life coping with the physical and emotional pain, but despite that he maintained a positive outlook and never lost his sense of humor or ability to make you laugh.

Randy worked at Weyerhaeuser for 33 years in various jobs within the pulp mill, retiring as an electrician. During his time working in the digesters, he devised and patented a system to more effectively and safely clean out the digesters.

Music was his saving grace. Writing songs, singing and playing the guitar was therapy for him. He loved singing with the community choir Crescendo and did so for several years. He also wrote music and performed the songs he wrote.

Randy was also a member of a 12-Step Program and in December of 2022 celebrated 41 years of sobriety. When his son Jay was young, Randy coached his Little League Baseball team. He also enjoyed fishing, target shooting, playing cards and just spending time with his family and friends laughing and playing cards. And he loved his kitties.

He was preceded in death by both parents, and his in-law's Gareth "Gary" and Noreen Rouse, whom he adored, great- granddaughter Olivia and his niece Amy. He is survived at home by his wife Diane, daughter Christine Schott (Christopher) of Longview, Son Jay Greig (Laura) of Ferndale, Sister Rhonda Hall (Wayne) of Longview, brother Ron Greig (Margie) of Kelso, Sister Rene Montgomery (Henry) of Arizona plus 6 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.
