Norma Jean Nutting, 95, of Longview passed away Sept. 1, 2023, at home surrounded by her family.

She was born March 13, 1928, in Longview, to Leonard and Elsie (Fowler) Lock. She married Ralph S. Nutting in Rupert, Idaho, on Sept. 23, 1946. She worked with Head Start in Caldwell, Idaho, before returning to the local area in 1975.

Norma studied early childhood education at Lower Columbia College and worked as a teacher and family advocate for Head Start in Longview. She attended Longview Presbyterian Church and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren at the beach, reading, and caring for others.

Norma was a loving soul who accepted others for who they were. She was able to maintain her beliefs while allowing others to have theirs.

She is survived by four children, John Nutting (Laurel) of Port Angeles, Wash., Victoria Payton of Longview, Paul Nutting (Cindy) of Spokane, Wash., and Kristine Delzell of Wheeler, Ore.; 13 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

Norma was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ralph in 1998; five grandchildren; a brother, Jack Lock; and a sister, June Wilson.

A memorial service is planned for 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 7 at the Longview Presbyterian Church. She will be laid to rest next to Ralph at Longview Memorial Park.
