Joseph Wheeler

Joseph Bond Wheeler, affectionately known as Joe, passed away on March 18, 2025, at the age of 86. Born on September 12, 1938, in Longview, Washington, Joes was a beloved husband, father, and friend whose life was filled with passion, adventure, and a deep commitment to his family.

Growing up on a homestead at 7th and Wheeler Street, Joe developed a love for the outdoors and a strong sense of community. He attended Kessler Elementary School and graduated from R.A. Long High School in 1958. His early years were marked by a love for horses, and he participated in numerous horse shows and riding events, with his favorite horse, Lava Boy, holding a special place in his heart. Joe also ad a lifelong passion for cars, particularly his cherished 1958 Corvette, which he drove with pride.

In the early 1960's, Joe served his country honorably in the United States Army, a time that shaped his character and instilled in him a sense of duty and camaraderie. After his military service, he turned his passion into a profession, becoming a successful business owner from 1968 to 1995, where he specialized in painting and working on cars. His dedication to his craft was evident in every project he undertook.

Following his retirement in the 1990's, Joe embraced the joys of travel with his beloved wife, Audrey. Together, they explored the beauty of the country in their RV, seeking new adventures wherever the road led them, or wherever an airplane could land or a ship could sail. Their 43 years of marriage were filled with love, laughter, and countless cherished memories.

Joe is survived by his devoted wife Audrey Wheeler, and his loving children: Scott Wheeler (Peggy), Joe Wheeler (Deena), Patrick Wheeler (Sarah), and his daughter Loni Wheeler. He also leaves behind his stepchildren, Dennis Mitchell and Angie Overall, who will forever hold his memory close to their hearts.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Bond Wheeler Sr. and Ina Mae Wheeler, as well as his brothers Mel Burns, and Cove Burns, his sisters Anne Lyon, Jeneve Wedlund, and Bell Delapp, and his stepson Ryan Mitchell. Joe's legacy of kindness, adventure, and love will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing him. 

A celebration of Joe's life will be held on April 11th at High Noon (12 PM) at Steele Chapel at Longview Memorial, located at 5050 Mt Sol RD, Longview, WA 98632. Family and friends are warmly invited to join in honoring a remarkable man whose spirit will live on in the hearts of many.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to a charity of your choice in Joe's memory, reflection his generous spirit and love for helping others.
