In Loving Memory of Jean Kay DeGross.
Born on November 19, 1947, in Chanute, Kansas, Jean DeGross passed away on July 24, 2024, at the age of 76 from a long battle with Alzheimer’s.
Jean was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Eudora and Reynold Huffman, as well as her first husband, Michael Post.
She is survived by her devoted husband of 34 years, Gerrie DeGross; her son, Mark Post (Tatjana); her daughters, Michelle Post and Suzanne Carlson (Ted); step-son, Mark DeGross; and step-daughter, Sharmon Morris.
Jean was a loving grandmother to 11 grandchildren: Taylor, Ryan, Luka, Nicole, Kyla, Jill, D’Marco, M’Shaiya, Michaelo, Jimmy, and Jessica. She was also blessed with one great-granddaughter, Kimber.
Growing up in Chanute, Kansas, Jean was very involved in her school community. She was a majorette with her high school band and worked as a lifeguard and swim instructor at the city pool. She graduated in 1965 from Chanute High School and went on to study at Emporia State College. As a mother, Jean was deeply involved with her children's activities, including the Cub Scouts, volunteering at the school and the PTA. She attended all of her kids' sporting events while working full-time for the school district. Lucky for her kids Jean worked at the junior high school they attended and was always there to provide lunch money if forgotten.
Jeannie and Gerrie were married in 1990 combining their families and creating Bothell’s own version of The Brady Bunch. They enjoyed many fun adventures together, traveling all over the world and spending lots of time on their boat and working in their yard. Jean took great pride in her yard. It was beautifully landscaped with rhododendrons, lilies, roses, dahlias, peonies and zinnias, just to name a few. Jean also loved to entertain. Her favorite was the annual Fourth of July party she hosted for friends and family. She loved all Holidays. Making sure to decorate and celebrate each one. Her attention to detail at Christmas was impressive, always ensuring each person had a handmade stocking filled to the brim and that everyone had three gifts to open. She was a wonderful cook and loved to host friends for dinners.
Jean's warmth, kindness, and love will be deeply missed by all who knew her. She leaves behind a legacy of cherished memories and a lasting impact on those fortunate enough to have shared her journey.
A memorial service will be held to celebrate her life. Details will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to The Women’s Alzheimer’s Movement.
