With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of James Horton "Jim" Fugitt on September 1st, 2026 at the age of 82. He was born in Longview Washington, where he spent his entire life; a life marked by compassion, strength and a deep devotion to his family.

Jim is preceded in death by his loving parents Cecil and Sarah Fugitt. He is survived by his sisters, Terry Huber and Sally Fosnick, and his brother John Fugitt.

Jim graduated from R.A.Long High School and attended Lower Columbia Community College. He followed in the family footsteps and dedicatedly worked for Weyerhaeuser Company for most of his employed life before retiring. Later in life he became a respected member of the 1414 Club, an achievement of which he was very proud.

He loved anything family: game nights, vacations, gatherings, holidays, as well as interacting with his very close-knit neighborhood. Jim enjoyed collecting certain things, like bells and Swedish Dala horses. As a youth, he would get together with his grandfather to work puzzles----a passion that lasted his entire life.

Jim always had a degree of stubbornness that only served to strengthen his personal resolve and loyalty. He consistently would not drift from that loyalty to people, ideals or even sports teams. You could always depend on Jim to be authentically himself.

To all who knew him, Jim will be missed. He looked at family and friends as a refuge from the often difficult life journey placed before him. He triumphed through perseverance and his belief that the simple and basic things in life were enough to instill joy in the present and hope for the future. We all love him and salute his courage.

The funeral service will be held at Steele Chapel, Longview WA on Monday, September 28 at 1:00 pm with a short period for viewing at 12:30 pm. Internment and reception will follow the service. The family also wishes to thank the staff at Steele Chapel for their kind and compassionate service to the family.
