Beloved husband, father and grandfather, Duane Edmund Fleckenstein, 74, of Longview, passed away Oct. 3, 2021, at Legacy Salmon Creek Hospital in Vancouver.
He was born Jan. 9, 1947, in Minot, N.D., and moved to the local area more than 70 years ago. Duane retired from Weyerhaeuser as a green chain puller in the planer department in 1996 after 19 years with the company. He was a fan of the Seattle Mariners and Elvis, a classic car enthusiast, enjoyed playing slot machines, and was an Arizona snowbird. There was nothing he wouldn’t do for his family.
He married Cathy Laskey in Castle Rock June 29, 1968. She survives him at home. Also surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Melissa and Randy Busby of Prescott Valley, Ariz.; a son and daughter-in-law, Darin and Wendy Fleckenstein of Longview; three grandchildren, Jaden and K’Lynn Busby, both of Prescott Valley, and Mariah Fleckenstein of Longview; and two sisters, Shirley Prather (Gary) of Mesa, Ariz., and Sylvetta Zandi of Longview.
Duane was preceded in death by his father, Herbert Fleckenstein; his mother, Florence Steiner; a brother, Larry Fleckenstein; his mother-in-law, Dorothy Laskey; and several other extended family members.
A funeral service is planned for 1 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 13 at Steele Chapel. Burial will follow at 2 p.m. at Longview Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Jaden Busby, Ryan Leppert, Clay Cartner, Dick Dreier, Darren “Chicken” Wicken, and Scott Yokel.
