Kelso

Doreen Diane Long, 63, passed away of lung cancer at the Vancouver WA Hospice Center.  She was a life long resident of the Longview, Kelso area.

Family was of utmost importance to Doreen. She is survived by three children and their spouses, Candace and Dan Carriker of Kelso, Andrew and Tonya Pellham of Longview, and Brandon Pellham of Kelso; her brothers and sisters, Harold Long, Sandy and Cindy Long, Denise and David Hampton, and step sisters Janet Hamilton and Debbe McWilliams; seven grandchildren, Kyle and Kaylee Carriker, Tommy, Amaya, Auroa, and Aiyden Pellham, and Mateo Chavez; two great-grandchildren, Kendall Carriker and Everett Alvarez; and her two dogs she treated as her babies Jackson and Shortie.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Roberta (Parcel) McWilliams; her father, Harold Long; her stepfather, Edward McWilliams; two sisters, Debbe and Darla Long; a brother, Roy Long; and numerous aunts and uncles.

Doreen worked in construction before retiring in 2005. She loved trips to the casino, singing karaoke, spending time with family, barbecues, bingo, camping, and making people laugh. These activities allowed her to express her vibrant carefree spirit and create cherished memories.  Doreen was funny, gave selflessly, was nonjudgmental and had a heart of gold. She was also independent, fierce, and stubborn, but above all, loving.  She had a captivating presence that brought joy to those around her.  She was also a believer in God (as a Christian) and made sure her grandkids said their prayers nightly.  This amazing mother, sister, grandmother, GG, and friend was a person loved by many and a soul that will truly be missed!

Doreen’s life will be celebrated at a service held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 26, at the Faith Family Christian Center.

Doreen will be remembered for her infectious laughter, her warm heart, and her unwavering love for her family.  Her legacy will live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to have known her.
