Denise Louise Krehbiel

March 24, 1956 — December 30, 2023

Longview

Denise Louise Krehbiel, age 67, of Longview, Washington died on December 30, 2023, at St. John Hospital in Longview.  A Celebration of Her Life will be held at 2:00 pm on Sunday, January 21, 2024, at Longview Community Church, 2323 Washington Way with Pastor Dave Hendrickson officiating.

Denise was born in Portland, Oregon on March 24, 1956, to Frank and Edith (Andrus) Edwards and was the eldest of three children. The family lived in Renton, Washington for one year, but otherwise she grew up in Portland.  The summer of 1969 Denise was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes and she faced many challenges from this over the next 54 years. After graduating from Cleveland High School, she attended Oregon State University in Corvallis, Oregon.  At Oregon State she joined Alpha Delta Pi sorority and formed many long-lasting friendships.  She graduated in 1978 with a Bachelor of Arts in Education.

In 1977, at OSU, Denise met the love of her life, Norm Krehbiel, and they were wed September 15, 1979. They lived in Redmond, Oregon for the first seven years of their marriage. Denise worked as a substitute teacher in the Bend area for a short time before their two children were born: Jennifer in 1981 and Jason in 1982.  In 1986 the family moved to Redmond, Washington. After the kids were both in school, Denise went to work for Lake Washington School District as a Teacher’s Assistant and was able to work at the kids’ school and even got to be in Jason’s classroom for one year.

The family moved to Longview in 1993, and Denise volunteered at the kids’ schools, joined the Columbia Theatre Guild, and became involved at Longview Community Church, where she enjoyed Women’s Fellowship and her Mary Martha Circle.

Denise loved her family and enjoyed relaxing and creating memories with them.  Denise loved to travel and see new things and planned many trips; some with Norm, some with friends, and many with the whole family. She enjoyed crafts such as cross-stitch, sewing, and scrapbooking. She enjoyed her water aerobics classes at the YMCA and formed many close friendships there.

Denise is survived by her husband of 44 years, Norm; daughter Jennifer and Andy Albertson and grandchildren Aubrey and Carter, of Eagle, Idaho; son Jason and Helen Krehbiel and grandchildren Zachary, Emily, and Elena, of Longview; sister Shelly and Larry Dell, of Ft. Mohave, Arizona; and brother Frank Edwards, of Portland, Oregon.

Memorial contributions can be given to the American Diabetes Association.
