Longtime local resident Betty Lou Jewett, 82, of Longview passed away Jul 4, 2023.
She was born Nov. 15, 1940, in Ava, Mo., to Vester and Lura (Moffitt) Burleson. The family moved to the local area two years later. Betty graduated from R.A. Long High School with the class of 1959.
In 1960 she married Ben Jewett in Lewiston, Idaho, and became a homemaker, raising four sons and numerous foster children. Betty and Ben divorced in 2005.
Betty always wore a smile. She loved spending time with family and friends, playing bingo, reading, and watching wrestling, baseball and football. She was a Seattle Mariners and Seahawks fan.
Betty is survived by her four sons, Allen (Mary) Jewett of Colorado Springs, Colo., Don (Tasha) Jewett of Aberdeen, Wash., Rick (Tina) Jewett of Kelso and Mark (Mary) Jewett of Longview; 10 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Vester Burleson in 1980, and Lura Burleson in 2000; two siblings, Jim Burleson and Mary Kell, both in 2017; and a grandson, Michael A. Jewett in 2021.
A graveside service is planned for 3 p.m. Friday, July 21 at Longview Memorial Park. Steele Chapel has been entrusted with Betty’s final arrangements.
