Longview

Beloved wife, mother and grandmother and lifelong Longview resident Betty Ann Heerensperger, 83, passed away April 25, 2024, surrounded by the love of family.

She was born Oct. 17, 1940, in Longview to William and Clara Schieber. After graduating from R.A. Long High School in 1958, Betty earned a teaching degree from Oregon State. After teaching for 10 years, she took a break to raise her girls and then returned to teaching. She retired in 2010 after almost 40 years as an elementary school teacher in Longview.

She eloped with Bart Heerensperger on May 12, 1963. They were married for 60 years before his death in June 2023. Betty loved her family, especially her daughters and grandchildren, both two and four legged. She also enjoyed reading, shopping, going to the movies and watching game shows on T.V.

Betty had a strong will and a dry sense of humor. She will be greatly missed.

She leaves behind her daughter Tamara, and her two beloved grand dogs Mandee and Dusty;.daughter and son-in-law, Kallie and James Veeneman; and adored granddaughters Janet and Charlotte;. her best friend of 77 years, Paula; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to husband Bart, she was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Alice Portwood; and a brother, William Schieber Jr.

No funeral service will be held. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in her memory to St. Jude Children’s Hospital or to the ASPCA.
