Lifelong local resident Aidron Odel Gallagher, 80, of Longview, passed away Jan. 13, 2024, at home.
He was born May 29, 1943, in Cathlamet, to Aidron O’Brien Gallagher and Genevieve Irene (Nunes) Gallagher. He graduated from Mark Morris High School and earned an associate’s degree from Lower Columbia College.
Aidron, also known as “Skip,” served in the Navy from 1960 to 1966 as a fireman aboard the USS Mount Katmai, earning the rank of FN (E-3). He then served in the Cowlitz County Sheriff Reserve. Skip was a fireman at Weyerhaeuser for more than 40 years, retiring as captain in 2003.
In his younger years, he enjoyed bowling and softball. More recently he enjoyed caring for his pets, scenic drives, gardening, and fishing. Skip was always willing to help others, loved his family, was loyal, hard-working, and had a good sense of humor. He was reliable and extremely punctual. He showed how much he cared through action.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley (Roulette) Gallagher at home; three sons and their spouses, Sean and Teresa Gallagher of Clatskanie, Ore., Jason and Kari Gallagher of Kelso, and Brandon and Kim Gallagher of Winlock; a brother and sister-in-law, Larry and Cassie Gallagher of Kelso; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Skip was preceded in death by his father, Aidron “Shorty” Gallagher; and his mother, Genevieve “Genny” Gallagher.
A memorial service is planned for 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 20, at Steele Chapel. Inurnment will take place at Longview Memorial Park.
