Michael Leo Martin

February 19, 1944 — July 29, 2021

Longtime local resident Michael Leo Martin, 77, of Longview passed away July 29, 2021, at the Hospice Care Center.
He was born Feb. 19, 1944, in Syracuse, N.Y., to Robert Ambrose and Josephine Leona (Corrigan) Martin. The family moved to Longview in 1947, and Mike graduated from Mark Morris High School in 1963.
Mike served six years in the National Guard. He worked as a carpenter for 46 years, the last 27 years of his career with the Longview School District. He retired in 2009. Mike built his own home and found a loving wife to share it with him, Jo Ann Martin. They were married Dec. 14, 1991.
Mike never met a stranger and loved to visit. He was a perfectionist in his woodworking and made many beautiful pieces of furniture. He was a member of Stella Lutheran Chapel and the Cowlitz Beekeepers Association, and a long-time member of the Carpenter's Union. He loved his Corgis - he had four of them over the years.
He is survived by his wife, Jo; four children, Julia Martin of Bellingham, Wash., Sarah Martin (Joel Reynvaan) of Tumwater, Wash., Holly Von Roch (Bob) of Longview, and Heidi Jordan-Johnson (Bill Johnson) of Seabeck, Wash.; seven siblings, Sally Prouty of North Bend, Ore., Pete Martin (Fran) of Tekoa, Wash., Sue Spooner (Gene) of Ocean Shores, Wash., Judy Strode (Bret) of Dayton, Wash., Dan Martin (Patsy) of Burlington, Wash., Jean Imus (Brad) of Bellingham, Wash., and Joe Martin (Sue) of Toledo, Wash.; a sister-in-law, Mary Martin of Longview; four grandchildren, Logan Eyer, Dylan Barker, Mackenzie (Colton) Keele and William (Aubree) Johnson; and generations of nieces and nephews.
Mike was greeted on the other side by his parents; and two brothers, Pat Martin and Paul Martin.
A celebration of Mike’s life with military honors will be announced in September.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Community Home Health & Hospice, P.O. Box 2067, Longview, WA 98632 or a charity of choice.
Cremation has taken place under the direction of Steele Chapel.
