Doris Mae Bopp

April 13, 1928 — January 1, 2023

Doris Bopp of Kelso, WA passed away the morning of January 1, 2023, at the age of 94. She was born to William and Julia Wood of Kent, England. She lived in England with her family until the end of WWII, having become a war bride. After the war she and baby Margaret would sail across the ocean to join with her husband who had returned earlier to settle here and build a home for them. They would raise six children together on a small family farm in Kelso.

She was a full-time homemaker who loved to sew, knit, cook, and garden. She knit blankets, caps, and sweaters for her family and friends She also made special outfits for her grandkids including a wedding dress for one of her granddaughters. Later in life she would knit caps every year for the students at Barnes Elementary where she also volunteered for many years. She also knit items like blankets for the Community House kids and also the disabled veterans. She was an active member of the Kelso First United Methodist Church for over 40 years. She also belonged to the Daughters of Britain, which were a group of local women who were war brides.

Doris was preceded in death by her parents, a son, a granddaughter, a sister, and her husband. However, she is survived by her sister, Rhoda Grant of Winnipeg, Manitoba; a Cousin Edna in London; and her children: Margaret Jones of Longview, Marilyn (and Elton) Strange of Kelso, Don (and Trish) Bopp of Kelso, Patricia (and Jeff) Lovingfoss of Clatskanie, Sylvia Amos of Puyallup, and Sheila (and Clay) Ashby of Longview. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren: Ron, Janice, George, Melissa Julia, Rebecca, Michael, Miranda, Stacey, Francesca, and Bernadette. She also has 20 great grandchildren, and 14 great-great grandchildren. A family service is to be held on January 21st at 1pm for family with a viewing at noon, and graveside at 2pm at Longview Memorial Park.
